“The Death”

For The Death video, I knew I pictured something organic, fluid, and scribbly. I wanted there to be engaging movement within the video that felt like a story unfolding.

It all started with the paper egret flying with a string background. (see the section below- Paper Egret )I actually downloaded a royalty free video of an egret flying, freezed a good amount of frames and overlayed it with paper texture.

The video then flips between different animated elements and the image of me on the beach, lying on the shore in a “grave clothes” get up. (which ended up being the cover of the whole EP. )

Then to my surprise, at the very end of the video, I happened upon a formula and process that would forge the way I made every visual after this one.

The portion of this video I love most is when the strings turn from white to red, and then I began to layer the strings at different sizes, incorporating moving elements inbetween to create different illusions.

I wanted each of the songs to feel like it’s own world. I felt the Holy Spirit show me each song with a defining shape.

Visually I am always drawing inspiration from the whimsical style of Studio Ghibli. Although this video takes a much more simplistic form, I tend to draw from the feel, movement, and mystery that those films evoke.
